Old Lamplighter

THE OLD LAMPLIGHTERThe Browns He made the night a little brighterWherever he would goThe old lamplighterOf long, long agoHis snowy hair was so much whiterBeneath the candle glowThe old lamplighterOf long, long agoYou'd hear the patter of his feetAs he came toddling down the streetHis smile would cheer a lonely heart you seeIf there were sweethearts in the parkHe'd pass a lamp and leave it darkRemembering the days that used to beFor he recalled when things were newHe loved someone who loved him tooWho walks with him alone in memoriesHe made the night a little brighterWherever he would goThe old lamplighterOf long, long agoHis snowy hair was so much whiterBeneath the candle glowThe old lamplighterOf long, long agoNow if you look up in the skyYou'll understand the reason whyThe little stars at night are all aglowHe turns them on when night is nearHe turns them off when dawn is hereThe little man we left so long agoHe made the night a little brighterWherever he would goThe old lamplighter of long, long ago
